Mt. Vernon Spring Wine Festival and Sunset Tours
Located nearby Alexandria, Virginia on the banks of the Potomac River, Mount Vernon was the home of George Washington, the first President of the United States. Welcoming over 1 million visitors each year, Mount Vernon is the country’s most popular historic estate and offers a glimpse into early American life. The historic plantation house, its beautiful buildings and garden grounds are a popular tourist attraction any time of year, however in May the national treasure is the site of the colorful Mt. Vernon Spring Wine Festival and Sunset Tour. Enjoy a relaxing, casual evening that combines a picnic by the Potomac with tasty wines and an intimate tour of the mansion. Guests can celebrate the history of wine in Virginia with live jazz overlooking the scenic riverbanks, while sampling vintages from sixteen area wineries. This unique D.C. wine event also features candlelit tours of the Mount Vernon mansion, including the rarely seen cellar where GW stored his wine collection. Learn about the Founding Father’s wine endeavors, both successes and failures, and meet the First First Couple themselves, George and Martha Washington, on the mansion’s piazza.
The Mount Vernon Spring Wine Festival and Sunset Tour takes place from Friday, May 17 to Sunday, May 19 from 6:00PM to 9:00PM. Advance ticket purchases are highly recommended for this popular event; ticket sales begin on Monday, April 1 at 10:00AM online or at Mount Vernon’s Ford Orientation Center.
