Watch
knights on horseback joust for the hand of a princess, shop for one-of-a-kind
gift items and gnaw on a campfire-cooked turkey leg at the Maryland Renaissance
Festival, a colorful celebration of life during this historic era.

Spread
over 25 acres, this event is the second-largest Renaissance festival in the
U.S. and features an English Tudor village. Explore the woods and fields of
this recreated 16th century village and discover over a hundred
unique vendors and dozens of food outlets, including taverns. You’ll also find
eight major stages and four small ones, a dedicated area for children and a
massive jousting court with capacity for 3000 spectators. From jugglers and
poets to pirates and craftspeople, you’ll encounter all types of artist and
performers at this fun festival. One of the top things do to in DC during the
autumn months, this Renaissance faire is a special way to spend the weekend.
Rent a costume to enhance your experience, or purchase Renaissance apparel once
you arrive. You’ll also find heaps of eclectic vendors, selling everything from
medieval weapons and wax hands to crystal charms, love potions and velvet
cloaks.

Maryland Renaissance
Festival takes place this year on fall weekends through October 20, and you can
purchase your tickets in advance online. Prices vary by date but range from
$17-22 for adults, $15-19 for seniors and $8-10 for children ages 7-15. Group
discounts and multi-day passes are also available; contact the festival to
purchase your tickets or for more information at 1 (800) 296-7304.
