Check out some history at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival
This year’s Smithsonian Folklife Festival will celebrate the unique landscape of Peru through a variety of educational, informative and fun classes during the week. Experience a unique celebration on the National Mall from June 24-28 and July 1-5 with cooking and craft demonstrations, music and dance performances, ritual and celebratory processions, and discussions. Learn a little bit more about this unique culture during this outdoor event, and support the Folklife Festival Marketplace by shopping all of the creative items on display during the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. Check out jewelry, textiles, baskets, pottery, clothing and more on display for purchase. The beauty of finding that perfect gift for someone (or yourself) at the Folklife Festival Marketplace is that it’s been supporting local artists and musicians from around the globe since 1967. This year’s program on Peru will feature groups who support the cultural originality of the country. With so much geographical and cultural diversity, this country is going to be highlighted in the best way possible during this Washington DC festival. Bring the whole family along to celebrate with people who have made their living celebrating Peru and dance, eat, shop and learn at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival this summer. It’s a unique opportunity to share and appreciate new cultures unlike anything you’ve seen before. Be prepared for hot and humid weather, and as always the suggested mode of transportation is public as parking near the National Mall is limited (the closest Metro station is Federal Center). From 11am until 5:30pm, enjoy a bit of Peru in Washington DC at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival.
