Washington DC Bars and Happy Hours
Washington DC has a vast selection of bars and happy hours to complete your experience while visiting DC. If you have a favourite drink, there’s probably a DC restaurant or bar that calls it their specialty. Wine lovers flock to wine-driven restaurants like downtown’s Proof and Capitol Hill’s Sonoma, while wine bars like Bouche Bistro, Veritas and Vinoteca are attracting large, diverse crowds. With the 80s and 90s and soon to be 100s creeping into Washington DC, why not head to a rooftop bar to catch some fantastic views of the capital city and enjoy the evening. Here are some of our favorites:
Beacon Bar and Grill
1615 Rhode Island Avenue NW
Nestled near Scott Circle you’ll find Beacon’s Sky Bar, where happy hour brings $5 martinis, Jamaican jerk chicken wings, and a scintillating sunset.
Cleveland Park Bar and Grill
3421 Connecticut Avenue NW
A perpetual favorite among upper-NW-ers, this sports haven is good for more than its 27 TVs streaming all the Nats, Caps, and Redskins games you can handle. Pair homemade chili and a few cold drafts with an evening screening at the Uptown.
El Centro D.F.
1819 14th Street NW
At Richard Sandoval’s taquería haven, you’ll find not one but two rooftop bars. Sate your thirst with agave cocktails—like the mango margarita or the mojito mexicano with chili-ginger simple syrup—before catching a show at the Black Cat.
1940 9th Street NW
Inaugurated two years ago and still going strong, this rooftop deck bears all the signatures of a sunset favorite—great views of the surrounding Shaw neighborhood, a central, wood-paneled bar serving up cold brews, and plenty of good company for whiling away an evening.
1716 I Street NW
This vibrant, dance-heavy spot can be a little much for the rooftop crowd, but put us with a cold cocktail on the roof illuminated with iridescent lights and we’re not complaining.
Jack Rose Dining Saloon
2007 18th Street NW
True men flock to this establishment outfitted with more than 1,400 bottles of hand-selected scotches, bourbons, and spirits. Pair barbecue and bourbon on the open-air terrace.
